what to expect
the basics
As this is the inaugural event for North Vancouver, we will be organizing a modest event as a model for future years to grow from. The size will be comparable to the four block long Car Free Day West End that takes place on Sunday June 20th - check it out for a preview of what to expect. The North Vancouver event will run on Lonsdale from Victoria Park down to the waterfront, with some activities spreading out onto West/East 1st and West/East 2nd. Slide the City will take place during the day starting from Victoria Park, with the Car Free Day festivities focussed below 3rd Street running into the evening.
In addition to Slide the City, there are plans to have a couple of concert stages, vendor tables (ranging from $30/non-profit group, to about $80/business - these figures are still to be finalized), street activities, street performers, demos, and whatever else you can imagine and help bring to life.
More detailed info on layouts will be available in the next couple of weeks, as the core Car Free Vancouver team is freed up after their June events. Their expertise gained over a decade of putting Car Free Day events is invaluable, and the Lower Lonsdale Business Association will be co-ordinating efforts with the local North Shore Community.
This is a volunteer driven event, so the more people we can get involved, the bigger it will be! Soon we will have a link to a volunteer sign-up page. Spread the word and we look forward to meeting you!
